FreewayCamper revolutionises the camping market and closes first investment with FlixBus founders

FreewayCamper - the new camping start-up from Munich is completing its first investment round and is bringing the FlixBus founders on board via their investment company SEK Ventures.

The young company from Munich has big plans. Founded at the end of 2019, it is already one of the larger rental companies for campers and motorhomes in Munich. The three founders Julia Blum, Nikolai Voitiouk-Blum and Maximilian Wagner want to lead the entire camping industry into the digital age.

"A quick entry into the camping market was possible for us through the rental of campers and motorhomes. Right on time before the Easter business, the platform, campers and the rental station in the south of Munich were ready. We were able to start properly with the end of the Corona Lockdown in May. Since then our fleet of over 30 campers is almost completely booked up. We have learnt a lot in this time and would like to get off to a good start in 2021", reports Nikolai Voitiouk-Blum.

The core of FreewayCamper is the digital booking platform www.freeway-camper.com. "Our customers can book their camper adventure in just a few steps. The usual enquiry forms are simply no longer up to date - our customers can immediately see the availabilities and receive their booking confirmation after only a few clicks" emphasises co-founder Julia Blum. In addition to new stations and the digitalisation of the complete camper rental, FreewayCamper will especially push the booking of campsites next year. "Camper rental and the digital booking of campsites provide the foundation of FreewayCamper, and we will build on this by introducing further offers in the camping market to the platform" adds co-founder Maximilian Wagner.

André Schwämmlein, co-founder of FlixBus and SEK Ventures on his new investment: "The digitalisation of traditional industries is part of our entrepreneurial DNA - this is why we find FreewayCamper's approach extremely exciting and are delighted with our investment to drive progress in the booming camping market. The wealth of experience of the founding team and the breathtaking pace at which the business has been built has also convinced us".

FreewayCamper will use the current off-season to prepare for growth in 2021 and then launch next season with new rental stations throughout Germany and the booking function for campsites.

About FreewayCamper:

FreewayCamper was founded at the end of 2019 with the aim of digitising the camping industry. Since March 2020 the platform www.freeway-camper.com is live and stands for a quick and easy booking option for your camping adventure. Currently FreewayCamper operates a rental station in the south of Munich and offers a wide portfolio of campers and motorhomes for every need. In 2021, the company will continue to modernise the industry with new stations and the possibility to book campsites. The founding team, consisting of Julia Blum, Nikolai Voitiouk-Blum and Maximilian Wagner, has already gained a broad entrepreneurial experience, often in a digital environment, before FreewayCamper. Many years of experience in the FlixBus top management team, expertise in online product management and the development of online shops as well as the founding and management of several consulting companies are only the cornerstones of the founding trio. Since September 2020, FreewayCamper has been receiving additional funding from the Free State of Bavaria through WERK1.
